Gateway Partners with MBS Direct for Online Bookstore

Gateway is pleased to announce a partnership with MBS Direct to help our students save money on textbooks. Through our online bookstore, you will have access to the largest inventory of textbooks in the United States.

Our students will be able to purchase all the textbooks they will need through our online bookstore as well as have the option to sell them back to MBS Direct. Just go to http://bookstore.mbsdirect.net/gatewaycollege.htm, our booklist will be available no later than 4 weeks before the start of the school year.

ONLINE CLASSES

UPDATE: The schedule for online courses has been adjusted. Courses will begin Tuesday, September 2, 2008.

Students who are unable to relocate, even temporarily, to the St. Louis area now have the option of earning Gateway credits from the comfort of their own homes. Gateway has partnered with the Consortium of Online Christian Colleges to allow students the opportunity to take a variety of courses for credit in an online format.

Online courses will begin in the Fall 2008 semester.

Accredited Degree Opportunity With SLCC

Gateway College of Evangelism is pleased to welcome our new campus pastor for the 2008-2009 school year.

James (Jim) Sample has a long history with Gateway College. He came first as a student from 1979-1982 and continued to serve in many different areas over the next 14 years. One of his first appointments at the college was that of Dean of Students, the position that would much later be renamed Campus Pastor.

His many years of experience in various aspects of Kingdom ministry will help him provide capable leadership to students in their spiritual growth and development.

Bro. Sample has been married to his wife Donna for 30 years and is the proud father of two daughters and the even prouder grandfather of one granddaughter.

Fall 2008 will announce the return of a much-requested degree program! The Elementary Education emphasis degree has been phased out and has been replaced by the new and improved Christian Education emphasis degree. This change will allow Gateway students a broader range of educational training and will do so without jeopardizing the transferability of the degree. For more information contact M. Gateway Professors Participate in National Conference

MARCH 13-15, 2008 - DUKE UNIVERSITY (DURHAM, NC)

Gateway alumnus and Assistant Professor of Old Testament and Theological Studies Jared Runck and Gateway Adjunct Professor Jeffrey Brickle were selected to present papers at the 37th meeting of the Society for Pentecostal Studies (SPS). SPS is the premier American academic society for Pentecostal studies.

Jared Runck is the first full-time Gateway faculty member to present a paper at their conference. He presented an intertextual reading of Romans 7 and the Confession of Jeremiah. Jared is a 2002 alumnus of Gateway College of Evangelism with a Bachelor�s degree in Practical Theology. He has just completed his thesis and is finishing his Master of Theological Studies (MTS) in Old Testament Studies.

Jeffrey Brickle presented preliminary work from his dissertation on sound patterns in the prologue of I John. He is an Associate Professor of Biblical Languages at Gateway as well as a faculty member at the Urshan Graduate School of Theology.

Gateway Brings Back Yearbooks!

Gateway College of Evangelism is proud to announce the upcoming publication of The Flame, the official yearbook of the college�s 2007-08 school year. This edition will be the first Gateway yearbook to be published since 1998.

Lee Ann Alexander, the advisor of the yearbook staff, says everyone is very excited about bringing back yearbooks. The yearbook staff is hard at work gathering photographs, generating copy, and all the other tasks involved in crafting this year�s edition. �The Gateway experience is unique in so many ways,� she says, �and our goal is to continue in the tradition of capturing those special memories for students to treasure now and in years to come.�

The 2007-08 edition will be a hardback volume with full-color pages and a custom-designed cover. It will feature traditional student, faculty, and staff portraits, as well as candids and action shots of the student body.

Accepting the Call: 2008 Gateway Missions Conference

�What do you have a heart for?� asked Sis. Lisa Marshall, Missions Club Sponsor and World Network of Prayer Strategic Coordinator, at the beginning of Gateway College of Evangelism�s first annual Missions Conference. She acknowledged that the Gateway student body consists of people with several different callings and passions�each of which are important. Specifically, this conference challenged and empowered students to accept the call to foreign missions.

The testimonies given at the opening chapel service on February 19 revealed the burden for foreign missions represented by many students as they shared their own experiences while doing missions work abroad. Dustin Lindsey, a biblical and theological studies junior who has served in the Sudan and east Africa, captured the consensus: �Missions is my life.�

The exhortation to accept the call extended into the evening services preached by Bro. Scotty Slaydon and alumni Bro. Bruce Howell, Director of Foreign Missions. Students, faculty, and guests joined in a powerful focused prayer for the nations during which everyone surrounded flags of countries for which they felt a burden. The theme of the conference changed from just realizing the call to missions to accepting it�whether a call to full-time missions, AIM work, or prayer and giving to finance missions.

On Wednesday night Gateway students were asked to give sacrificially to support national pastors in the country of Bangladesh. Rev. James and Elizabeth Corbin pioneered the work in Bangladesh fifteen years ago, and it is now growing at a rate beyond what the national pastors can support. The Missions Club set a goal of $500, which would finance a national pastor�s full-time ministry for an entire year. After the final calculations, Gateway exceeded its goal and raised $2500! This amount will support five full-time national pastors for an entire year of full-time ministry to evangelize Bangladesh!

The future impact from this conference will be felt around the globe both from sacrificial giving and the commitments made during the conference. Many students accepted their calls to missions and to other areas of ministry, as all were reminded that Gateway College of Evangelism stands true to its name and takes an active part in reaching the world.

Called to Go: Missions Club Ministers to El Salvador

�Por tanto, id y doctrinad � todos los Gentiles.� (Go ye therefore, and teach all nations.) This year, many Gateway students are answering the call to go and teach all nations. On March 19-24, the Gateway Missions Club will minister to the country of El Salvador.

The trip began in response to an invitation and through the direction of Sis. Lisa Marshall, Missions Club Sponsor. In November, the group was challenged to raise the $1000 necessary for the trip by sending letters and raising money in their home churches. After just two short months, 24 members have the funds, their passports, and a willing heart. They have been praying and fasting for God�s Will with high expectations.

Every day of the trip presents tremendous evangelism opportunities. The first two days will consist of prayer walks, passing out tracts, visiting an orphanage, and assisting Mercy Medical, which provides Bible studies to every patient receiving medical care. Each group member is also taking an extra bag of church clothes donated by Gateway students. The items will be passed out at the El Salvador National Convention on March 22.

The Missions Club will be ministering during the two services of the convention, during which an estimated 40,000 people are expected to attend. Gateway students will be singing in the services in the country�s native language of Spanish. They will also be working in the altars, praying El Salvadorans through to the Holy Ghost and witnessing healings. Without a doubt, every member of the group will have a life-changing experience.

People not able to attend the trip can participate by praying for the group�s safety and for doors to be opened for each student to minister effectively. Also, prayer is needed for the entire country of El Salvador. Thank you for your prayers as Gateway joins in the global harvest!

Our First Lady: Sis. Mary Ellen Dugas

FEBRUARY 8, 1951 - DECEMBER 30, 2007

Sis. Dugas arrived as a student at Gateway College of Evangelism in 1969. Here she she met her beloved husband, Rev. Tim Dugas, and they were married in 1970.

Their ministry included serving in Kansas City, MO; Walla Walla, WA; Christian Life College in Stockton, CA; Director of Promotions for the General Youth Division; and Secretary of the General Home Missions Division. Bro. Dugas was elected pastor of Florissant Valley Apostolic Church in 1984, and Sis. Dugas assumed the duties of pastor's wife, as well as music director.

In 1993, Bro. Dugas was named President of Gateway College of Evangelism. Sis. Dugas gave tremendously to the College by overseeing renovations, developing Ladies Ministry classes, and serving as surrogate "mama" for the many students. Her presence has blessed countless number of people who have passed through the halls of Gateway.

Sis. Dugas peacefully completed what she called her "trip" on December 30, 2007. The overwhelming expressions of love during her visitation and homegoing celebration reflect the enormous impact she made on so many people.

In her honor, the Mary Dugas Learning Center is being created at Gateway College. This project will entail complete renovations of all second floor classrooms. If you would like to make a contribution in Sis. Dugas's memory, please contact Gateway College at 314.838.8858.

Gateway Pursues Accreditation

Accreditation has been a goal of Gateway College since the late 1960�s. However, pursuit of this option did not begin in earnest until the mid-1990�s. Under the guidance of Gateway�s administration, great strides were made in this endeavor. Two of the most significant changes at Gateway�a curriculum overhaul and the hiring of qualified faculty�have enabled us to finally submit an application for review at a national accrediting agency.

Because the administration and faculty feel that it is important to capitalize on the momentum created by such an act, this September, Gateway began working with a consultant regarding regional accreditation. The addition of a consultant to our pursuit will facilitate the accreditation process greatly in that a consultant will know what to look for in respect to accreditation criteria. He will also be able to give direction on how to remediate areas of concern. We also believe that working with a consultant will provide visible proof to stakeholders that Gateway is serious about receiving regional accreditation. A consultant will work as a catalyst in the improvement of the administration, faculty and staff; and, by default, the College. This will make Gateway an institution of higher learning where men and women are able to pursue God�s call on their lives without the significant obstacles the College�s unaccredited status has presented.

While we know this is an arduous process, we are also aware that for Gateway to remain a viable force in the Kingdom, our college must be an institution that will propel young people into a place where opportunities abound. The administration, faculty and staff of Gateway College of Evangelism are committed to the accreditation process and trust God to guide us in fulfilling His calling for us.
